Living In The Real World

How to live well and within your means – tips, tricks, and possibly useful information

Winter In The South February 14, 2009

This is an outfit I created using http://www.Shopstyle.com. I’m completely obsessed with messenger bags and skinny jeans tucked into tall boots right now. The outfit costs $155 total, and all of the pieces can be purchased on Shopstyle.

Do You Swap?

Another site I have been using quite a lot lately, and quite successfully, is www.SwapTree.com.

On this site, one can trade their old books, dvds, cds, and video games. It is extremely easy to use and set up an account, which is free as well. Also, the site is run in the most professional manner and I have had nothing but positive experiences. I am enjoying trading some of my stuff I have laying around, and even more I’m enjoying not having to buy the new stuff.

The only thing you have to pay for is shipping, however, you can set up a credit card on your account and print shipping labels straight from your computer and not have to deal with the post office hassle, or you can just pay yourself at the post office. I have found that when you print shipping labels from the site, whatever your shipping reaches its recipient much faster than shipping the regular way.

I am a strong supporter or recycling your used goods and it is really fun to do so on this site and find movies or games that you’ve been wanting to experience without having to pay anything for them. So, let me know what you think about the site (feel free to ask questions) and hopefully you can find some cool stuff too!

My Current Obsession February 13, 2009

I am currently completely obsessed with the site www.ShopStyle.com. This site is at heart a shopping site that has brought together every website on the internet where you can buy men, women, and children’s clothing, as well as household items, and you can shop all of the sites from this one site. It is beyond amazingly helpful when it comes to internet shopping.

However, it is also a site that promotes and nurtures creativity in the area of fashion and one can create an account, for free, on the site and put together outfits, much like dressing a paper doll. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, whether for the purpose of shopping, or branching out creatively. (If you have any questions about navigating the site, please feel free to ask).

My point in telling about this site is to try and get some more people like me on it and using it – people interested in reality and living on a budget. I love to create outfits on the site that I can actually afford, however, the majority of the outfits created are for fantasy, a way to dream about what we wish we had.

Unfortunately for me, I can only dream so long before I get frustrated and want to buy the clothes. ūüôā So, every once in a while, I will share some of my creations and pass along any good sales that are happening.

Check out the site and let me know what you think. (you can find me under Members, nicmarie166)

The Beginning

So, I had been going along my merry way in my own little world, taking care of my son, surfing my favorite sites, and trying to figure out how to stretch a not-so-big military paycheck, when it hit me. I regularly read and use a lot of sites and blogs, but I only just realized that I cannot seem to find any that pertain to living on a budget, indulging in my love of fashion in design but on a budget, and entertaining a toddler when living in a mid-size town.

Every magazine I read or site I peruse seems to assume that I have a paycheck at my disposal of upwards of $100,000 a year. I realize there are many out there who have hundreds of dollars to spend on the newest trend or gadget, groceries and entertaining, and household decorating or rennovating, but I feel like there are also a TON of us out there who have limited funds to indulge ourselves and family with.

So my point with my blog will be to share what I come across, whether it be fashion, design, decorating, rennovating, cooking, shopping, entertaining, reading, and on and on, that falls within the arena of living on a budget and wanting to live well, and if I come across and sites or blogs that are also trying to do what I do, I will pass them on as well.

I will also go so far as to beg others out there to pass on their knowledge to me.

Wish me luck!
